The Sorting Hat

Because color is displayed differently on various devices, the soap you order could be different from what you’re viewing on your phone, laptop, or monitor. This is a common occurrence with online shopping; it has to do with display resolution, number of pixels and bit depth.

Ingredients:

Distilled Water, Apricot Kernel Oil, Palm Oil (Responsibly Sourced), Lard, Fractionated Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide (none remains in the final product), Olive Oi, Castor Oil, Grapefruit Lilly FO, Sodium Lactate (Liquid Salt), Cain Sugar (boosts lather), Silk (Cruelty-Free), & Micas.

10% Super Fat

Super Fat: to use a small excess of ‘free’ fatty acids in a recipe that are deliberately NOT converted to soap. Instead, these tiny oil molecules remain within the soap matrix and are then transferred to your skin when washing. This is not  to say that your skin will feel oily because only a minuscule percentage is used.

This was my first attempt at the Teardrop Technique, which is designed to create a teardrop-shaped pattern within the soap bar. Although the result wasn’t exactly as planned, it ended up resembling the Sorting Hat from Harry Potter, making it a happy accident!

To execute the technique, I divided my main batter into three containers. I poured one container into the mold, filling about ¼ of it. On top of this base, I slowly poured various colors into the center along the length of the mold to begin forming the teardrop shape.

Next, I poured the remaining two containers back and forth along the length of the mold. This technique pushes the batter to the center and upward, forming the rounded bottom and the upward tail of the teardrop. While my batter thickened a bit and caused the shape to flatten, the tail rose just as intended.
